Compression stockings are medical grade devices designed to move blood flow.Â
Support compression stockings are made available in multiple compression support levels. Most commonly compression support stockings come in mild (8-15 mmHg), Medium (15-20 mmHg), Firm (20-30 mmHg), X-Firm (30-40 mmHg) gradient compression levels.

The benefits of Compression Therapy are plentiful and the reasons vary from person to person why you may choose to wear compression socks or stockings. As shown in the above chart, some of the most prevalent symptoms or conditions that benefit from compression therapy are:
Pregnancy related swelling and vein problems
Varicose or spider veins
Lymphedema or edema
Swelling, pain or blood clots in the lower legs, also known as DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)
Poor circulation from sitting for long periods
Post-surgical and post-sclerotherapy treatment
It can even be used as a preventive measure to maintain healthy legs for someone who spends extensive amounts of time on their feet. Quite simply, when we stand still for long periods, the forces of gravity increase the pressure within the veins of the legs where the greater effects happen at the ankle and decreases gradually up the leg and body. This pressure depends on the vertical distance of the column of blood from the heart to the foot. That's why gradient compression stockings are designed with the pressure greatest at the ankle and diminishing as it moves up the leg in order to counter the effects of the higher venous pressures.
Compression therapy products are put on in the morning upon arising, which is typically before any significant swelling would occur, and then removed at night. Throughout the day the compression prevents blood from pooling in leg veins, which in turn helps your overall circulation and lessens or eliminates any leg swelling you may have.
When shopping for compression socks or stockings, it is best to measure earlier in the day before swelling builds in the legs. Measurements taken later in the day after swelling occurs may cause you to choose an item that is too large and then not effective.
There are many types of compression socks and stockings available without a prescription and they do offer wide-ranging benefits. Before wearing a compression therapy of 20 mmHg (Firm Compression) and above, it is generally recommended to consult your health care provider to find out if graduated compression stockings are right for you. If the answer is yes, they can tell you what pressure grade you should buy for maximum benefit and relief.
I really really love these stockings. My vein doctor's office recommended it to me and after trying 4 other brands with different sizes and styles, I must say that this is the easiest to put on, it has a great give when pulling it on, but a nice firm compression. Good medium beige color, pretty sturdy, not very easy to rip at all. I am of average built, with a bit stronger thighs, and it has plenty of room. The sizing was a bit misleading, I am 5'6 and 160 lbs and it still has a bit of extra room on the top, even though I order the smallest possible size (petit 1). I followed this recommendation from the doctor's office and they were right, even this smallest size fits with plenty of room - despite the fact that my leg measurement would indicate a regular II. So you might want to keep that in mind...
It is definitely not the cheapest stocking out there, but if you can afford it, it is certainly the most comfortable one!

I have lymphedema in one leg due to surgical lymph node removal. Juzo is the best product in the market. Yes, the stockings are expensive, but don't waste your money on inferior products that are uncomfortable to wear. Discount Surgical Stockings has the best price and great service.

The stocking are fine. I've ordered them for years from Discount Surgical Stockings. However, this last year the office of this organization must have changed management. There are very long waits on the phone prior to placing an order. There was a major mix up with my credit card -'- mixing me up with a man who uses Mastercard and myself who uses Visa. Our names were misapplied to the two cards.
I've been unable to speak with the manager about this because she never answers her extension and the recorded message states that her mail box is too full to receive more messages. When I mentioned to a sales person that I found the recent changes unacceptable and they must have been due to fewer employee, she said that was true.
If this poor service is not turned around to the good service that used to be there, I will seek another outlet.

i like the Juzo soft thigh hi with the toeless foot, and 30-40 compression. i have tried many kinds of tights, but these help my sweling and my leg pain. Plus, their the softest I have found! I wear these with everything, and the toeless I can wear with sandals.
It can get hot in Los Angeles, but I wear these almost every day of the year. I know of men who wear these too. One is a doctor who wears them all the time, even in surgery! I don't know why some people complain about their vein pain, yet don't give compression tights a go. I swear y them.
